You are welcome to the Department of Planning and Hospital Services Management (DP&HSM),The Department is principally involved in the Hospital functions of planning, Health Services Management, teaching , advocacy, scientific research, and Customer service.


Department Profile

The Department of Planning and Hospital Services Management (DP&HSM) is committed to the rational development of the hospital in particular through teaching and learning, research, development and management.

The Department seeks to contribute to achieving hospital development through strengthening hospital capacities in planning and management. In so doing, the Department is foresee to create an environment that fosters dedication, cooperation and reward for hard work, initiative and creativity, Implementation of the professional ethics, openness, fairness and honesty.

The department portrayed on diverse but corresponding competencies within and outside the hospital to compete effectively in the market. In a view to effectively accomplish its roles and functions, the Department seeks to adopt the following strategies: undertaking continuous quality improvement of health services through on job training and development of staff; conducting operational and scientific research, collaborating with stakeholder and other organizations (Local and International) for hospital development.

Department of Administration and Human resource Management.

The Department has two sections, these are:- 

  1. Admnistration and Human resource.
  • Training and Continous Proffessional Development.

Objective 

To provide expertise  and services on human resources management and administrative matters to the Hospital.

Functions/Activity

  1. To provide strategic inputs to management on Administration and Human resources Management issues such as recruitment, Human Resources Development and Training, Promotion, retention, motivation, Performance Management and welfare
  2. To ensure optimal management of Human Resources in the Hospital
  3. To provide data support and up-date records on various Human Resources information
  4. Interpret Public Service Regulations; Standing Orders and other Labour laws
  5. Facilitate employee relations and welfare including health, safety, sports and culture
  6. Provide registry, office records, messenger and courier services
  7. Handle Protocol Matters
  8. Coordinate implementation ethics and value promotion activities including corruption prevention education
  9. Implement diversity issues including gender, disability, HIV/AIDS.
  10. Coordinate recruitment, selection, placement, confirmations and transfers for the hospital.
  11. Facilitate Human Resource training and development (career, professional, skills enhancement) for the hospital including Cadres under the Sokoine RRH
  12. Facilitate orientation/induction programmes for the new entrants
  13. Human resources planning to determine supply and demand needs for professionals under the Sokoine RRH
  14. Salary administration and payroll processing
  15. Coordinate implementation of Open Performance Review and Appraisal System (OPRAS)
  16. Process and update records of various leaves such as annual, sick, maternity, study and terminal
  17. Oversee employee benefits (pension, allowances etc) and entitlements

  • Department of Nursing and MIDWIFE

Introduction

The department of nursing and Midwife is the biggest Department among the twelve Department of the Hospital. Its major responsibility is to oversee the provision of quality nursing care services to the patients across the hospital and ensure patients’ basic needs, are met while hospitalized, they are getting treatments accordingly, prevention of complications and nosocomial infection, health education, and counseling. Provision of nursing care services is emphasized on following the nursing process which includes assessment of the patients, establishing nursing diagnosis, planning, intervention and evaluation and nursing model. The overall responsibility of the department is to ensuring high quality clinical support to all patients, provision of quality medical services at an optimal standard and provision of high level nursing services to all patients

Department Profile

The department conducts all nursing care services to the patients across the hospital and ensures patients’ basic needs, is met while hospitalized. It is composed of three units. These units are divided according to their areas of specialization which are; nursing, midwife, Social welfare services, and Nutrition services

The department has the role to oversee provision of quality nursing and midwifery services in the hospital. This department constitutes about 60% of all the health care work force in the hospital. In this regard, the department of nursing and midwifery cadre has set goals and strategies for nurses and midwives at all levels of health care delivery in the provision of respectful and compassionate care. The department improved a working environment to facilitate delivery of respectful and compassionate health care services.

The Department has a total of 140 employees comprising of 4 Nursing Officer, 34 Asistant Nursing Officers,37 Nurses and 65 Medical Attendant.

  • Strengthen interpersonal relationship between nurses and / midwives and service users in accessing health care.
  • Enhance utilization and satisfaction of service users on nursing and midwifery health

  • Nursing  unit

The unit conducts all nursing care services to the patients across the hospital and ensures patients’ basic needs, is met while hospitalized. It has the role to oversee provision of quality nursing services in the hospital. This unit constitutes about 80% of all the nurses in the hospital. The section is involved in training nurse Students and from time to time, elective students when available from different countries

  • Midwife unit

The unit conducts all midwife care services to the patients across the hospital and ensures patients’ basic needs, is met while hospitalized. It has the role to oversee provision of quality midwife services in the hospital. This unit constitutes about 20% of all the nurses in the hospital. The section is involved in training nurse Students and from time to time, elective students when available from different countries

  • Social welfare services

The unit has 1 social welfare officers and 1social welfare nurse. It provides services across the hospital. The major roles of these welfare officers are assisting patients cope with their condition and hospital environment and identify a social problem which affects their health. Other responsibilities include counseling, reconciliation, exemption, patient’s follow-up through home visiting and advice. They are also responsible for repatriation of patients after treatment.

  • Nutrition services

The unit provide to our patients nutrition healthcare to improve or support the patients’ quality of life. It offers the educational needs of their patients and the community as a whole. Inpatient nutrition services conduct comprehensive nutritional assessments for inpatients to identify the patient’s specific medical needs. Outpatient services for medical nutrition therapy and diabetes education are individual counseling sessions to assist patients in managing their nutritional diagnosis and provide education that is tailored to meet their needs. Outreach programs involves our team conducting a variety of activities to increase awareness of nutrition and health such as cooking classes, healthy snacks and fitness for children, support groups, and various nutrition-related presentations for both corporations and the surrounding communities.

SURGICAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT.

The Department has six sections, these are:-

Introduction

The Department of Surgery is one among the twelve departments of the hospital. The units are divided according to their areas of specialization which are; General Surgery, Orthopedics & Trauma unit, Theatre (Minor &Major), Anesthesia , intensive Care Unit. The overall responsibility of the department is to provide effective, efficiency and high quality specialist surgical services to patients. The department is tasked to make sure that services are provided in accordance with the set standard operating procedures and treatment guidelines.

Department Profile

The department conducts all the surgical cases of children and adults. This includes all surgical conditions within the hospital capacity. The most common surgical conditions which are managed under this firm include hydrocele, hernias, anorectal malformations, and fracture. The most common emergency conditions attended include laparotomies, for pentonitis intestinal obstruction. hernias, and Trauma. The department is dedicated provision of high quality of patient care and conducting researches to the hospital in particular through teaching and learning, research, development and management.

The department has got a total of 6 units as shown above. Each unit has specific role to play in carrying out the functions of the department. The Department has a total of 42 employees comprising of 2 specialist, 8 doctors and 31 other staffs.

The Department has five sections, these are:-

Department Profile

The department conducts all the Gynaecological and obstetric cases. This includes delivery unit (Labor Ward), Obstetric,and Gynaecology unit. The department also runs two outpatients clinics, i.e. the Reproductive Health Clinic (RHC) and cervical cancer clinic.

The department has got a total of 5 units 

Obstetric unit

The unit has 8 beds, and admits mothers waiting for delivery or with pregnancy complications and post delivery.

 

Gynaecological unit

It has bed capacity of 12 beds, receives all patients referred with gynaecological problems.

 

Labour unit

It has 4 delivery rooms.


Staff profile

The Department has a total of 27 employees comprising of 1 specialist, 4 doctors and 22 other staffs.

  • Prevent and manage obstetric complications so as to reduce maternal/neonatal morbidity and mortality rate.

  • DEPARTMET OF PEDIATRIC AND CHILD HEALTH

The Department has five sections, these are:- 

  • General Pediatrics Unit
  • Neonatal Unit

Department Profile

The department of Paediatrics has a total of 2 units namely: General paediatrics unit, and Neonatal unit.

General Pediatrics Unit

The general paediatrics unit has two wards namely WD1 and WD2. These two wards admit patients with a variety of diseases including respiratory diseases e.g. pneumonias, cardiovascular diseases e.g. congenital heart diseases, genitourinary diseases such as nephrosis/nephritis, UTI and other diseases such as malaria and anemia.

Neonatal Unit

The unit cares newborn babies of up to 28 days of life. Babies are kept in special rooms depending on the diagnosis or underlying problem and the rooms are provided with necessary equipment depending on the needs, e.g. incubators, resuscitation equipment etc.


Each unit runs an outpatient clinic to follow up patients. Patients attending outpatient clinic include those discharged from the wards with and new patients referred from other centres but did not need admission.

These are patients with chronic or long standing medical problems include CNS disorders e.g. cerebral palsy, renal diseases e.g. nephotic syndrome, HIV infection, children with severe malnutrition, persistent or chronic diarrhea, malabsorption syndromes and other GI disorders, etc. Outpatient clinic is run on a daily basis.

In each of the pediatric wards, ward rounds are conducted on a daily basis by resident and specialist. This includes weekends and public holidays. Major ward rounds are done twice a week by specialists along with the other junior doctors. The department is involved in training doctors and Nurse Students and from time to time ,elective students when available from different countries

Introduction

The department of Medical Services (DMS) is the biggest Department among the eight Department of the Hospital. It is the core function of the hospital and it oversees the provision of high quality of patient care and conducting researches. The department is tasked to make sure that services are provided in accordance with the set standard operating procedures and treatment guidelines.

Department Profile

The Department of Medical Services (DMS) is dedicated provision of high quality of patient care and conducting researches to the hospital in particular through teaching and learning, research, development and management.

The department has got a total of 7 units which comprise of highly qualified staff. Each unit has specific role to play in carrying out the functions of the department. The Department has a total of 57 employees comprising of 1 specialist, 15 doctors and 41 other staffs.

Visiting  the clinic.

You need a referral from council Hospitals or other recognized hospitals so as to have an appointment to be attended by our doctors and you will be in the category of public patients. For self-referral or referrals from private hospitals will be categorized as Private patients. Insurance companies are treated as Private patients The clinic days run from Monday to Friday from 07:30 hours to 15:30 hours.

  • DEPARTMET OF SURGICAL SPECIALTIES

The department of surgical specialties is one among twelve department of sokoine Hospital. This department is entrusted with the responsibility to attend all surgical specialties patients in the Hospital. The department also takes care of patients both inpatients (admitted) and outpatients. The department is composed of three units. These units are divided according to their areas of specialization which are; Ear, Nose and Throat [ENT] , Ophthalmology, and Dental  unit. Each Unit is responsible to deliver a specific service in the respective unit. The overall responsibility of the department is to provide effective, efficiency and high quality tertiary specialist surgical services to patients.

The sections are:-

  • Ear, Nose and Throat [ENT] unit

Department Profile

Ophthalmology UNIT

The unit of ophthalmology serves entire population of Lindi residents as well as those patients referred from nearby region. The unit runs outpatient clinics daily from 7:30am to 3:30pm where by all new cases and follow up are seen by ophthalmology doctor. Those patients who need surgeries are well scheduled according to the required operations, also all emergency cases are seen immediately and those with trauma are operated as emergence case.

Ophthalmology department has advanced so much that it perform so many different ocular imaging and diagnostic investigations for different eye problems. The following procedures are performed at the department of ophthalmology.

  1. Visual field analysis (MVF)
  2. Fundus photos
  3. A and B scan (ocular ultrasound)
  4. Othorptic and squint evaluation
  5. Direct and Indirect fundus ophthalmoscopes examination and many others.

The eye department gives outreach services to region councils. The department has given outreach services to Lindi DC,Lindi MC, Kilwa, Nachingwea, Ruangwa and Liwale.

During festive occasions like World Sight Day, World Diabetes day, Saba- Saba festival, Nane-Nane World nurses day and many others, the department provide free services to the general public.

Optometry & Low Vision.

All patients with inability to see near or far object are sent for proper correction of their vision with spectacles or other devices like telescopes or magnifying lens. All type of spectacles/devices are available depending on the choice of patients, this unit functions every day from 7:30am -9:30pm.
